The Liverpool Trojans Baseball, established in 1946, are the oldest running baseball team in the UK.
As part of a project with Hugh Baird University Centre in Bootle, Liverpool, Merseyside I was tasked with producing some photographic work concerning a place or area of interest as part of a wider piece of work called ‘Beyond Bootle.’
After undertaking some local research I approached the Liverpool Trojans Baseball Team and offer to produce them something entirely bespoke and relevant to their team.
This project allowed me to design and produce a series of baseball cards for the team, in line with the established designs and layouts of the popular collectors cards available in the United States. More information on the team can be found online at trojansbaseball.co.uk This project was exhibited March 2019 inside The Strand Shopping Centre in Bootle alongside the work of several other photographers.
As recently as 2013, the Trojans were a one team club but they realised that there was a greater appetite for the sport in this area than we could possibly cater for in that format. For this reason, in 2014, they started their second team nicknamed the “Twojans”, and in 2020 they merged with Halton Baseball Club and founded the Halton Trojans. Each team plays a specific role within the club to ensure we cater for all levels of ability.
The first team is put together to compete for honours at the highest available level. They have been the Northern champions for the past four consecutive seasons, and are looking forward to getting another title defence underway in 2020.
The Twojans were originally a development team but after five seasons of hard work to get to this stage, they now feel ready to compete in their own right, and will be looking to add the first trophy to their cabinet in the next few years.
For now, the Halton Trojans are here to provide playing opportunities to those that want them. They are made up of some more experienced players looking to share their knowledge, and rookies keen to learn the sport for the first time.
They are always on the lookout for new players, coaches, umpires and scorers of all abilities and level of experience, so if anything that they do sounds like it is something that you would like to get involved with then get in touch with them via their website
