The Hardest Part of Getting Your Photo Taken Isn’t the Photo

Studio portrait photography session, the first step is booking in with Leon Britton Photography Liverpool

The Hardest Part of Getting Your Photo Taken Isn’t the Photo

Something I notice with almost every client, whether it’s a first headshot or someone’s fifth session with me: the hardest part was never the day itself. It was getting it booked in.

The Delay Is Never About the Camera

People put off booking for weeks, sometimes months. Not because they don’t want the photos — because they’re not sure what to wear yet, feeling a bit nervous about being in front of a camera, or waiting to feel more “ready” before they commit. None of that actually needs to be sorted before you book. All a booking commits you to is a date and a time.

Everything Else Gets Worked Out Together

The outfit, the nerves, what you actually want the photos for — all of that gets figured out once you’re through the door, not before. I ask every client the same simple question at the start of a session: what do you want someone to feel when they see this photo? The whole session is built around answering that, and it happens on the day, not in advance.

Why This Matters More Than People Think

If your team’s photos are overdue, or your own headshot is a few years and a few haircuts out of date, the actual barrier is very rarely the photography itself. It’s the booking sitting unmade in the back of someone’s mind for months. Businesses lose out on this constantly — a mismatched or outdated set of photos across a website or LinkedIn says more about a company than most people realise, and it’s usually one overdue booking away from being fixed.

Booking Is the Only Step You’re Behind On

If you’ve been meaning to get updated photos for a while and just haven’t gotten round to it, that’s genuinely the only thing standing between you and having decent photos of yourself. Get in touch and we’ll find a date — the rest, we sort out together when you arrive.

Hi, I’m Leon — a Liverpool photographer with 15+ years behind the camera, working out of my studio at The Secret Warehouse and on location across the North West.

I shoot headshots, corporate and brand photography, weddings, and portraits for actors and musicians — real people in real moments, not stiff studio poses.

Clients usually turn up a little nervous and leave delighted with images that actually look like them. That’s the job, really.

Get in touch if you’d like to work together.
