A LIVERPOOL LANDMARK

A Grade I Listed Setting for Your Wedding Day

St George’s Hall opened in 1854, designed by Harvey Lonsdale Elmes and completed after his death by Charles Cockerell. It’s widely regarded as one of the finest neoclassical buildings in Europe, Grade I listed, and sits in the heart of Liverpool city centre, directly opposite Lime Street Station.

The Hall houses Liverpool’s Register Office, with three ceremony rooms to choose from — the Grand Jury Room, the Sefton Room, and the Rose Room — each with its own character. Many couples also choose to have photographs taken on the Hall’s grand front steps, one of the most recognisable backdrops in the city.

PHOTOGRAPHY AT THE VENUE

Making the Most of St George’s Hall

1

The Great Hall’s natural light shifts through the day — the tall windows mean the light and mood change from morning to evening, so timing your ceremony and photos with this in mind makes a real difference.

2

The Grand Staircase is one of the best spots for group and family portraits — its scale gives room to gather larger groups without feeling cramped.

3

The Minton Tiled Floor makes a striking wide shot — worth building a few minutes into your timeline to capture it properly, rather than rushing past on the way to the reception.

4

The Grand Jury Room and Sefton Room each have their own character — which ceremony room you’re booked into changes the mood of the day, so it’s worth knowing which one in advance when planning your timeline.

Common Questions About Getting Married at St George’s Hall

Yes. The Hall houses Liverpool’s Register Office, with ceremonies held in the Grand Jury Room, the Sefton Room, or the Rose Room depending on your booking. Contact Liverpool Register Office directly to check availability and book your ceremony — I can then arrange your photography around that time.

I’d usually suggest 30–45 minutes to properly cover the Great Hall, the Grand Staircase, the Minton Tiled Floor, and the front steps without rushing — a little more if you’d like a few different looks or the wedding party joining for group shots.

Absolutely. St George’s Hall is one of Liverpool’s most photogenic backdrops, and I regularly bring couples here for portraits even when their ceremony and reception are somewhere else in the city.
