Getting married at St Chad's, Kirkby? I’m Leon Britton, an award-winning Liverpool wedding photographer with experience at this venue — this page covers what to expect from your wedding photography here.
St Chad’s Church in Kirkby has an ancient foundation predating the Norman Conquest, with a church on the site recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. A Georgian chapel replaced the original building in 1766, and the present church was built between 1869 and 1871, designed by the Lancaster architects Paley and Austin and funded by the 4th Earl of Sefton.
It’s a beautiful and genuinely popular venue for weddings, with generations of Kirkby families — including many still living locally today — married here over the centuries.
St Chad’s holds a particularly personal place for me. In 2003, after 11 years together, my wife and I got married here — an unforgettable day full of joy, laughter and celebrations that carried on late into the night. It’s actually the reason I became a wedding photographer at all: looking back at our own photos afterwards, I realised how much of the day they didn’t quite capture, and that experience is what led me to pick up a camera in the first place. Photographing other couples’ weddings at St Chad’s since has meant a great deal to me.

The Victorian Gothic architecture rewards a few extra wide shots — the church’s scale and detail are worth capturing beyond just the ceremony itself.
I know this church better than almost any other venue I cover — having been married here myself, I know exactly where the light falls well through the day and the best angles inside.
St Chad’s conducts Anglican wedding ceremonies; I’m happy to cover your ceremony here and follow on to your reception venue afterwards.
As early as possible — I only take on two full weddings a month, so it’s worth getting in touch as soon as your date is set.
