A Historic Castle Hotel in North Wales
Ruthin Castle dates back to the 13th century, originally built by Dafydd, brother of Prince Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, and later owned by monarchs from Edward I to Charles I. Today it’s a four-star castle hotel set in the Clwydian Range, with 59 bedrooms across four room styles blending the castle’s medieval and Victorian history with modern comfort.
Ceremonies can take place in the Grand Salon, Peacock Suite, or the medieval King Charles Room, which looks out over the castle’s moat — licensed for civil marriages of up to 100 guests, with wedding breakfasts and evening receptions for up to 120.

Making the Most of Ruthin Castle
The King Charles Room’s moat-facing windows are a genuine feature — worth building a few minutes into the schedule for portraits that use that view, rather than only the ceremony shots.
The castle grounds — gardens and woodland — give plenty of scope for couple portraits — away from the building itself, which is useful if the weather’s kind on the day.
As a destination venue, travel time is worth planning for — I build in enough time on Ruthin Castle weddings to properly cover both the medieval interiors and the grounds without rushing.
