Liverpool Town Hall, on High Street at the top of Castle Street, is one of the finest Georgian civic buildings in the country and a genuine statement venue for couples wanting something spectacular in the heart of the city. Civil ceremonies can be held in several rooms, from the grand Main Ballroom (up to 210 guests) to the smaller, equally impressive Small Ballroom (up to 80 guests) and the oak-panelled Chamber.
Additional rooms including the East Reception and the Sefton Room offer more intimate options, and the building's sweeping staircases and chandeliers give plenty of scope for photographs beyond the ceremony room itself. Overall, the Town Hall can host ceremonies for up to 270 guests.

The staircases are one of the building's best features — worth building in time straight after the ceremony to use them, before the room fills up with guests moving to the drinks reception.
Chandeliers and gilded plasterwork respond well to a slightly slower shutter — I bring the right kit for the Town Hall's grand but low-light interiors, so nothing feels rushed or under-lit.
